Memorial Players’ seventh annual spring musical, “Mame," opened on Frida y, April 11, 2008. For the first time at Memorial, the run extended for five performances over two weekends, April 11-13 and April 18-19. The show set new records at Memorial for number of cast members (50) and number of people who got to see the performances (over 1000).
In the lead role as Mame was Peggy Dorsey, who played Jellylorum/Lady Griddlebone in CATS and in 2009 is directing The Sound of Music. Mame's Southern beau (and later her husband), Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside, was played by John O'Brien, Jr. Olivia Steinrock was cast as Patrick Dennis and Ginny Hornbeck portrayed Patrick’s faithful nanny, Agnes Gooch. Nancy Kelso was featured as Mame’s best friend, imposing actress Vera Charles, and Christophe Jouny (Growltiger in CATS) was Mame’s French butler, Yves.
The production team included David Lloyd Warner as director, Jesse Milan, Jr., as assistant director and choreographer, and Memorial’s organist and choirmaster Bill Wisnom as music director and conductor of the orchestra. John Seeley designed the sets.
